#6 I Don't Want To Get Over You - The Magnetic Fields
This Song was released on The Magnetic Fields 1999 Record 69 Love Songs. The Record itself is made up of sixty nine songs and clocks in at 172 minutes and 35 Seconds. It is not so much a record full of love songs as it is a record "about love songs". I love the lyrics, and the imagrey. Its three minutes to just wallow in self pity and misery while being able to laugh it in the face.
#5 Why d'Ya Do It? - Marianne Faithfull
Why d'Ya Do It? was the final track on Marianne Faithfull's "definitive recording" Broken English. Released in 1979. The song starts out from a man's point of view. He has just been caught cheating and is listening to a tirade from his angry lover. The lyrics were quite controversial and ultimately banned from Australia. I love the lyrics, the woman has taken charge, she will not be walked on for another minute.
#4 Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again (Live) -Bob Dylan
This song was originally released on Bob Dylan's 1966 Record Blonde on Blonde, but this is a live version from a live album he released called Hard Rain. The song has been covered by the Grateful Dead amd Cat Power. I love the imagery Bob Dylan uses in this song.
#3 Head On - Pixies
This song was originally recorded by The Jesus and Mary Chain, while I like their version I have been a Pixies fan for several years. The Pixies released this song on their 1991 Album Trompe Le Monde. I really like Frank Black's vocals and I think they were really inventive and smart with the songs they wrote.
#2 I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to Be Free - Nina Simone
This song was released by Nina simone on the 1967 record Silk & Soul. I Love this song and her voice. Nina Simone was a civil rights activist and a lot of this came out in her music. This song being one of them. She was a true talent, but I don't see her get the attention she deserves, which is a shame. This song was a Civil Rights Anthem and speaks for itself.
#1 Adios - Linda Ronstadt
This song was released on Linda Ronstadt's 1989 album Cry Like a Rainstorm, Howl Like the Wind. I've been a lifelong fan of Linda Ronstadt. My parents used to blare her records every summer on family road trips and I have stayed with her ever since. This song features background vocals from Brian Wilson a member of the Beach Boys. This song feels like Fall, Spring, Summer and winter rolled into one.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting choice of music, Im suprised you like what you do but I think its cool. I like that Nina Simone song, I think I am going to sample the piano in the beginning and make a beat of it. Haha but great choice of music.
